Vehicle groups help you remotely configure the vehicle routing profile, map sets and other CoPilot settings to be used in a group of vehicles—thus eliminating the need to configure one CoPilot device at a time. Your fleet may need Vehicle Groups assigned for specific branch locations, regions, assets, local or long haul delivery assignments, etc.
You will only see a Vehicle Groups page if your fleet assigns CoPilot app licenses to vehicles.
How to create Vehicle Groups
Click Configure Fleet Settings in the left menu > Vehicle Groups to get started. The Vehicle Groups page loads with a list of your existing vehicle groups, if any.
To create a Vehicle Group:
- Click the Create Vehicle Group button on the right side of the screen.
- Enter a name for your vehicle group in the Vehicle Group Name field.
- If you have access to RouteReporter, you can select the checkbox for Send Oor Emails, and enter a list of email addresses separated with commas in the Oor Emails field to receive alerts when a vehicle assigned to this group goes Out of Route.
- Click the Save & Continue button.
- In the Create Vehicle Group dialog, select the checkbox next to each vehicle you want to assign to the group. Note that if you’re adding a vehicle that’s already assigned to another group, the assignment will fail if it causes the vehicle to exceed the maximum number of Map Sets.
- Click the Save & Continue button.
If you want to undo your selections on any of the steps detailed on this page, click the Undo icon on that step.
Assign Vehicle Routing Profiles
A Vehicle Routing Profile is a collection of settings that ensure CoPilot's routing algorithm knows the type of vehicle being driven, so it can apply all legal and physical road restrictions when generating the route. Routing Profiles also include customizable settings that take into account a fleet’s preferences for how a vehicle should be routed.
Account Manager comes with a wide selection of default routing profiles, which are based on the most common types of commercial vehicles on the road, in various regions of the world. If you need something more custom, you can create your own profiles to fit your fleet's vehicles and routing preferences.
- In the Routing Profile section, select the checkbox next to each profile you want to assign to the group, or click the Assign Default Profiles button to use a default routing profile. You may assign more than one routing profile to a vehicle group.
- Click the Save & Continue button.
Assign a Configuration Profile
Configuration Profiles include compliance and driver accessibility settings and set how often Configure Fleet Settings are synced with CoPilot.
- Select a profile from the Configuration Profile dropdown menu, or assign the default configuration by clicking the Assign Default Profile button. You may only select one configuration profile for a vehicle group.
- Click the Save button.
Assign Map Sets
Map sets are subsets of map data in the U.S., Canada, and Europe that you can assign to only the vehicle groups that require those maps. This feature can help save disk space on your devices running CoPilot, and it can reduce the time and wireless data needed to download maps and map updates.
- In the Map Set section, select the checkbox next to each map set you want to assign to the group. Again, be careful not to exceed the maximum number of map subregions per vehicle. For example, in North America, a subregion could be a region of the country (i.e. Midwest) or an individual state or province (i.e. New Jersey or Alberta).
- Click the Save & Continue button.
Assign Route Modifiers
Route Modifiers are road closures or roads to avoid or favor in routing that are created in ContentTools and synced with CoPilot.
- If you want to assign Route Modifiers to the group, select the checkbox next to each Route Modifier set to be used.
- Click the Save button.
Assign Custom Places
Custom Places are your fleet's own custom locations on the map that are created in ContentTools and synced with CoPilot.
- If you want to assign Custom Places to the group, select the checkbox next to each custom place set to be used.
- Click the Save & Continue button.
- Click Done to finish creating your vehicle group.
The new vehicle group is now listed on the Vehicle Groups page. You may select the vehicle group from this page to make further changes as needed.
